I would like your opinion of living in the emerald hills portion of southeast san diego? - san diego gated communities

Hello, I am not a native of San Diego, but I'm moving there. I saw an ad on craigslist 1-room apartment in a residence in the hills outside the Emerald Empire. San Diego is the rumor of crime is high. Emerald Hills hear is not so bad. Please give me your thoughts and areas to avoid. Thanks
